Methodology
Polity is a public record of public office. It shows who holds office, how they got there and what is documented about their work, with the source of every fact.
Where the data comes from
- Election results, candidates, parties and Assembly members: the Election Commission of India's statistical reports (Lok Sabha 2014–2024, State Assemblies 2017–2026, by-elections 2018–2024).
- Members of Parliament: Digital Sansad (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha).
- President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and Governors: checked against the National Portal of India.
- PIN codes: the India Post directory on data.gov.in, matched to constituencies by location (approximate).
How records are checked
Every import is staged, validated and published with its source, and nothing is marked verified just because it was imported. When two sources disagree, the more authoritative source wins and the conflict is reviewed by an editor. Every change is in an audit log.
Linking people across elections
Election files carry no candidate ID, so Polity links a person's contests by name, seat and the age declared at each nomination. Namesakes are kept apart when their ages disagree or they stood against each other. Mistakes are possible: please report them.
What Polity does not do
Polity does not endorse, rank, score or predict. Comparisons show recorded facts — seats, votes, margins, offices, dates — never a judgement of performance. Payment never changes what Polity shows about anyone.
Labels you'll see
Official (from a government, legislative or election source), Verified (checked by Polity against an authoritative source), Officially claimed (the leader's office manages the profile), News reported, Citizen submitted and AI summary. Each page also shows a source confidence level based on the type of source and how recently it was updated.
