How Polity works
Polity is a source-backed record of who holds public office in India, what they have done publicly, and where each fact comes from. It helps you find and check information. It leaves political decisions to you.
What the source labels mean
- Official
- From an official body: Parliament, the Election Commission, a government gazette or legislature.
- Officially sourced
- From an official dataset or document, such as a state portal or public dataset.
- Leader-provided
- Published by the person, their office or their party. Shown as their claim.
- News reported
- Reported by a news organisation. Polity links to the original article.
- Citizen submitted
- Submitted by a member of the public and not yet independently verified.
- AI summary
- Written by AI from the cited sources. Always labelled and never presented as original reporting.
Sources and tiers
When sources disagree, higher tiers take priority and the conflict is reviewed by an editor. Tier 1 is most authoritative.
| Source | Type | Tier |
|---|---|---|
| Election Commission of India | Election Commission | 1 |
| Lok Sabha (Digital Sansad) | Parliament | 1 |
| National Portal of India | Government | 1 |
| Press Information Bureau | Government | 1 |
| Rajya Sabha (Digital Sansad) | Parliament | 1 |
| India Post PIN code directory | Public Dataset | 5 |
| Wikidata | Community-edited database | 5 |
Neutrality policy
Polity does not endorse or oppose candidates, recommend how to vote, rank or score politicians, predict election results, or publish best and worst lists. Party colours appear only on party labels and are never used for the site's own design. Claims by leaders and parties are labelled as theirs.
Corrections
Every profile has a Suggest a correction link. Corrections never change the record directly: an editor checks the source you give, decides, and the decision is kept in an audit log.
Privacy notice
You can use Polity without an account. If you suggest a correction, your name and email are optional; if you give them, we use them only to follow up on that correction, and you can ask us to delete them at any time. We never publish who submitted a correction. We do not sell personal data. This notice follows the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Grievance officer
Complaints about content on Polity, including requests for a right of reply, are acknowledged within 24 hours, as required by the IT Rules, 2021.
Grievance officer details will be published here before launch.
